NMTS Ride Schedule

NOTE: In addition to these one time rides, the club has recurring rides most days of the week. To view them, choose the "Weekly Rides" link in the menu at your left.
Pace is the speed, plus or minus one, that will be maintained on flat terrain with no wind. Distance refers to miles traveled in a day; on multi-day rides it refers to total miles for the trip, and a daily average is calculated from that.
Rides with a light-green background occur over multiple days
HELMETS CSPC, Snell or ANSI Approved Helmets are REQUIRED for all NMTS rides.
EBIKES Class 1 E-bikes are welcome where conditions allow, and at the ride leader's discretion. Class 2 and Class 3 E-bikes are not permitted on NMTS rides.

NMTS Arizona in Winter – January 23-26, 2024

Cold weather is here and I’m planning our annual trip to Arizona in January of 2025. John Gillett will be co-leading the rides. It will be a repeat of the NMTS 2022 Tour of the Year. Ride dates are January 23-26, 2025. All rides will be based out of Fountain Hills, AZ except the first day’s mountain bike ride.

A couple of options for hotels would be the Fountain Park Inn right across the street from all the road ride starts or Spark by Hilton 3 miles away. Loretta and I will be staying at McDowell Mountain Regional Park in our camper just a few miles north of Fountain Hills. There should be tent and unimproved RV campsites available there.

Fountain Hills is a small, beautiful municipality just east of Scottsdale on Hy 87 coming into Phoenix from Payson. There are several nice hotels and restaurants in town and Scottsdale/Phoenix are minutes away.

The rides I have planned will be an intermediate mountain bike ride on Thursday, January 23 followed by 3 road bike rides in the beautiful Valley of the Sun.

Day 1, January 23, 2025

The Tour kicks off with a 20-mile, intermediate level mountain bike ride in beautiful McDowell Mountain Regional Park, one of the most iconic Sonoran Desert settings on the planet. The first 6 miles of this ride are on the parks Escondido trail which is challenging and beautiful. From there it transitions to a steady 7 mile climb up Pemberton and a rest stop at Pancho’s gazebo where we will pay respects to the Lost Mountain Biker of McDowell. Pancho sits atop the gazebo waving farewell wishes to the world. Then comes a fun winding trek through the Goosenecks followed by a screaming decent down Bluff back to burgers and beer…pretty much a perfect mountain bikers ride!
