This ride will take place the weekend before the festival of the cranes. A slow paced gravel ride through the Bosque del Apache wildlife preserve. Meet at the post office in San Antonio and ride 8 miles on pavement to the preserve’s entrance station ($5, National Parks Senior pass accepted). In the preserve ride up to 12 miles on the gravel north and south vehicle loops. Bicycles are allowed in the preserve but limited to roads. There are numerous side trails to wildlife viewing areas so you may want to bring a lock and walking shoes. After returning to San Antonio try some of the best green chili cheeseburgers at the Buckhorn or the Owl. Both were very busy on a recent visit. The ride can be shortened by starting at the gift shop across the road from the entrance station or skipping one of the loops in the preserve. [Route Map and cue sheet](https://ridewithgps.com/routes/44793906) If time and interest allow we may try exploring the ditch bank trail on the east side of the preserve. Note that the route within the preserve may change depending on which roads are open to traffic at the time.
