Frank had to cancel this ride on July 8 due to strong winds. Let's try it again, the forecast is for cooler weather and lower winds.
Let's try the slightly longer version of the Oak Flat ride. This ride takes us through Tijeras Canyon and then South on 337, passes the Oak Flat recreation area, and turns south after a couple of miles to become Anaya Rd. Turning left on Gonzales Rd, the route goes east and then turns right / south onto NM-217 S. After passing through the tiny village of Yrisarri, turn right on NM-337 N. Optional rest / food stop at Morning Star Grocery at the top of the hill. Continue north on NM-337 N with a fun descent back to Tijeras and then west on Old Route 66 down Tijeras Canyon and back to the start in Albuquerque.
A sag wagon with water and snacks will be available at Oak Flats starting at 9:30.
For a shorter ride, start at the Tijeras library at about 8:30, or skip the loop at the south end.
If your mileage is not the nominal 45 miles, please email jlballe@gmail.com with your actual mileage.
