This is a tough, incredibly scenic ride. It includes almost 5000 ft of climbing. About 9 miles of the climbing is on dirt roads. I've ridden this with slick road tires in the past but find a little tread really helps on the dirt. My apologies to John Gillett, apparently we simultaneously submitted nearly identical rides on successive weeks.
Ride north on Tramway from Central. Continue on to Roy and then turn north at the traffic circle. Ride through Bernalillo via E Avenida Bernalillo and South Hill Rd to 550. East on 550 which turns into NM 165. Ride through Placitas (The Merc in Placitas is the last place to load up on fuel till Frost). Continue past the end of the the pavement till we reach the Crest road at the Balsam Glade picnic area. Then downhill and return to the start via Frost Rd, Guiterrez Canyon and Old 66.
